Part 1

Introduction
Explain what task you did for the AS production and how this one differs from it.
(e.g. thriller/kids Tv)

For our AS media production we did a thriller opening sequence, three of us in the group did this together and think we got the most out of it, we all enjoyed producing it. However one of us was in a different group and she learnt a lot from this as she was left to edit it mostly herself. For our A2 media production, we had to make our own music video. We were given a selection of songs to choose from. We all decided on track 11 because this was the one we had the most ideas for as a group.

Part One
Explain briefly how the work came about and what the tasks were.
(Talk about learning more techniques for final Cut, analysing some real music videos and looking at student examples,talk from promo director, music range of choices, etc)

One of the first lessons we had for this project we went to the field and experimented with the camera, we looked at camera angles and how we could trick the eye of the viewer using perspective. We got this idea from researching optical illusions on the internet along with video which i saw in the summer.

Which band/artist did your group choose and why?
(give some positive reasons here)

The song we chose was called 'Beast' by Vincent Vincent and the Villains. We chose this song because we all thought this was catchy and addictive. We had many ideas for what we could do, and so

How did you ‘pitch’ for them?

We posted this blog:
Initial ideas
-silhouette of man talking to woman, projected as the beast.
-Man and women arguing, man singing.
-both characters in masks which cover only half their face.
-'The rain pounding down on my window' (line of the song) shot of rain pouring down a window.
-locations will be a bedroom,
-Acoustic guitar, drums, Gloomy bedroom
-representation of a heart ripping
-using a beast as an emotional journey, Person go into a crowd of people with a white tee-shirt on, people in the crowd representing different things/ emotions. come out of the crowd with black ripped tee-shirt on.

What tasks had to be done in the research and planning phase? How were these handled and what could have been done to improve them?
(talk about storyboarding, animatic, organising places, props, equipment, people)

We started by making a rough story board, then after going on to make more of a presentable story board used for the animation on our blog, which we also used for planning. We all went to a fancy dress shop, to buy different props for the day of the shoot. we planned to go to one of the members of the groups house where there was room to expand on ideas and shoot some footage. we were not expecting to finish all the filming that day because we wanted to bring new fresh ideas to other parts of the song. We also did some test footage leading up to the day of filming, to get used to the cameras again.

How did the group come to decisions about approaches to the tasks to be completed? (what range of options did you consider and why did you opt for the choices you made?)

We decided to shoot at Marthas house, and had the idea of the couple arguing and one of them being a beast figure.

What roles did the various people in the group take on? Concentrate particularly on your role in the various activities.

Martha and Tom were acting in the film.
Jake did alot of the filming, whilst genny helped with the filming, she also organised the costumes.

Talk about any test footage you shot. What did you learn from doing these tests and from the animatic?

The test shots we did, we did not use because, although they work, and seemed to be very successful. And so we decided they did not have anything to do with the song.

However with the animation we evaluated that some of the shots worked, but others did not. Also Martha was the only person which new what the location looked like. And could visually think of places we could shoot.

Write about the shoot. What went well/badly? what could you have done differently?

On Friday, the group came to my house to get so of the shots we had thought about and tested for our final music video.
The footage we got was good, but we found we came to a bit of a dead end after the first verse. However we decided to get as much filming done as possible on Friday, load it onto our computer on monday and re-evaluate what it is we need to add to the final footage.
The footage we did get was as followed:
-First shot of two characters staring at each other, with camera circling them, in the dark and gloomy bedroom.
-The breaking of the heart on the tee shirt.
-The verbal fighting match between the couple.
-the rain pouring down on the window.
-And the band members playing on the instruments

This did go well however there are alot of loose ends that we did not tie up.

Consider your early editing and how you reached the rough cut stage. Outline this process and discuss decision-making you undertook.

When editting our raw footage we tried keeping

What does the group feel about the rough cut? What feedback have you had from director/ other students etc? what still needs to be done?

Our rough cut was still in quite a primitive stage, we are happy with the footage we are using but we still need to film a third more footage as we need to re-do one shot and also fill in the gaps. We made other students in our media class give us feedback on what we had to use there criticism to improve the overall quality of our music video, our main criticism was that there were gaps which we already knew was a problem before we showed it to them, one piece of criticism we were given that we didn't know about was that one of our member was in a shot that they were not meant to be in, the footage was poor anyway as the actor didn't emphasize to lyrics well enough we will be re-shooting soon.
